But , I feel her moving, in the shadows again, She's truly inviting, and she's dressed to kill, In leather and lace and she is smiling at me, With her fangs, all exposed...
Well this is the chorus for my new song Fangs. It's about drugs. I wrote the music for Fangs one night at home on my Yamaha steelstring guitar. It just kinda appeared on the neck while sitting in front of the TV. I started to try some words to it. It came out "heaven or hell" some where... But I had the feeling it was supposed to, in some odd way, be about drugs and the unearthly pull it can have on us. But I get it. People not affected by addiction just can't relate to the .... pull, the yearning...... to let go of your restraint and ...... and in a blurry way knowing but not acting ..... and ultimately destroying your life. To outsiders it just doesen't make sense. It's inamiginable. But it's there, it's true and it's very very real to us.
So how can I write a lyric that ... shows ... I decided to depict the pull in the shape of a inviting, beautiful but lethal woman that lures me in ... again. "I feel her moving, in the shadows again, She's truly inviting, and she's dressed to kill, In leather and lace and she is smiling at me, With her fangs, all exposed..." Yeah, you know what will happen, and it is not good, but you do it anyway.....
The song has two distinct parts. The rythmical verses and choruses and then the solo parts. The solo parts are like highs, lovely, silky smooth but slightly odd and thumbling. But I can't play that. So I got my good friend Stefan Hedenström over to the studio and said to him -"I want a floating solo as a opium high!" And, yeah .... he played that. Impressive! Well, to lay down the drum tracks for a song composed like his is difficult. But my long time friend Öjje Forsberg can do almost anything on a drum so .... I told him what it was about and, yeah ..... he played that too, right there in the studio. I know because I was looking. He worked with a lot synocopes and a lot of changes in shape and attitude in the drum track. It all turns out very nice.
So this is Fangs. Hope you'll like it!
