RECORDING IN THE BASEMENT

Concentration....
Feeling.......
Our recording studio is tucked in deep into a basement in Aspudden on the outskirts of Stockholm. You walk thru a shabby garage and some loading dock corridors before you reach the door to the studios. Well, inside the door it's all nice with a coffee room with a TV on the wall for relaxing and 5 studio grade rehearsal rooms. One of them is ours.
The days before new years eve we were recording drums for two songs. "Tell the world", our next release, and a song called "Fangs" wich is on it's way to a demo. Multi talented drummer Öjje Forsberg, who made his debut on a Gus recording on our latest release "Stureplan", sat behind his extensive Roland TD-50 drum kit. It's a standard TD-50 with a lot of add-ons, so it's really big. And being a digital drum kit it is super easy to record from.
Really easy set up. Lots of zeros and ones straight into Cubase!
Yeah, this is how he sounds....
Öjje and I have played together in the coverband Tumult before and are now together in the live band RMF. We play almost intuitively together. When I'm on the bass I can almost feel were he is going. So it's probably not strange that I like his playing style. Anyway, one thing I really like with Öjje is that he goes all in when playing music. No half-hearted playing. All in! But it dosen't mean that he's banging away all that he's got every time. No, rather he goes all in emotionally. It can be delicate and sheer but with all the feeling and concentration into it. "Tell the world" is a little tricky because it has two thin and delicate parts and two massive ones. We are mixing it now and I'm shure that Öjjes playing was right on the dot. But it's up to my producer Micke MiMo Moberg to decide. Micke will know where to go. He always does.
