RECORDING IN THE BASEMENT III

Recording all at the same time, stereo!
Christmas had alot of day off this year. At least in Sweden. So I took the opportunity to catch up with slow music production in the end of 2019. So 4 days in the wonderful basement studio in Aspudden. This christmas we recorded the raw tracks for two songs. That's fast but the live band Forsberg Wilson & Muller has played the songs on stage in 2019 so we had found the way to play them and how to arrange them. And we were up to date on the way we wanted it to sound. So we have recorded Susan's gone and Psychotic. Susan's gone I handed over till Micke MiMo Moberg of MiMo sound records yesterday for production. Planned release in late February. In the studio we also played around with the song we still call Manhattan but since it hasn't any lyrics yet the name is ..... just a good guess right now.
Öjje Forsberg, Clara Wilson, Charlotta Wilson and I have done the recording together this time. Nice, because I usually work alone in the studio. And it's much more fun working together. I just have a 4 port audio interface in the studio. So I can convert just 4 analog signals at a time when recording. The drums are a Roland TD50 kit and is recorded in stereo so a guitar and a bass on top of that is all we can manage. In analog signals. A keyboard can be recorded plugged directly to the computers USB interface if it's a MIDI signal from the keyboard. And it usually is. So this is how we did it. Drums, guitar, bass and keyboard recorded at the same time. It worked fine. And when recorded I sat for several hours after every recording session and mixed and chose recording to go together. Dreary work but it's done only once.
Yellow tracks are vocal tracks.
After that I recorded the lead vocals. I don't have a singing booth so I have to be alone in the studio when recording and sing with a headset. But that works just fine. So when recording the choirs we do it one at a time in the studio. It takes alot of time and the ones not singing ...get "speeded" by all the caffeine they have time for outside....
This Tuesday we tried to record a choir in stereo. 3 at the time singing in to crossed mono microphones. And headsets on it worked. The recording this way felt very "live". Something me and my producer Micke Moberg works alot to achieve.
So today I have to record the lead vocals for Psychotic. Öjje, Clara and Charlotta will be in this afternoon to lay down the choirs and add some bass and keyboard we have to redo. So... bye for now, I have to go.
